“It is an interesting biological fact that all of us have in our veins, the exact same percentage of salt in our blood, that exists in the ocean”

Birds of the Cape salt marshes include Snowy Egrets, Great Blue Herons, Mute Swans, Osprey, Hawks, Eider Ducks, Mergansers, Scoters, Terns, and Shore Birds such as Piping and Semipalmated Plovers, Oyster Catchers, Greater and Lesser Yellow Legs, and many more.

There are two very special bird areas on the Cape you should not miss. The first is the Mass Audubon Society in Wellfleet, and the second is the Monomoy Island refuge off Chatham, which has long been a favorite haunt of birdwatchers. Noted ornithologists consider Monomoy to be one of the most exciting birding locations on the East coast.
On the Cape, you may also commonly see deer, coyote, fox, raccoon and possum.
